Though many mages were priests, priests generally did not have to be mages -- with a few exceptions.
When appointed Flamen Dialis, a position that required Spirit magic to prove the holder’s sacred connection to Jupiter, Lucullus Aridius looked over the list of honors bestowed upon him and prohibitions upon his behavior, all designed to make him a constant priest, his thoughts ever on his duties.
Some, though, raised questions as to why they had been thought necessary.
“I may not strip naked in the open air?” Lucullus frowned. “It had never before occurred to me to desire to do so.”
