The arguments that the NaNoWriMo team gave are so bad. If you struggle with proofing and editing your work how is having to do the same for an AI going to help you?

Something that irks me is that AI assist tools like grammarly, while helpful at spotting actual errors, have all been trained specifically on this one particular style of overly chirpy USAmerican corporate babble which I LOATHE. They claim to make your writing better; no, they just make your writing conform to THEIR model. I worry about how impoverished and flattened the English language will become when all so called "good" writing sounds like a soulless tech bro from New York sending "rise and grind" emails.

Great article, your rebuttal for each point is spot on! I hope your resignation puts them on absolute blast! I really, really don't want to believe Nano is *actually* defending the use of LLMs here because I love Nano and that would be WILD. But it really does read like they are?! They're being so vague, they don't define what they mean by AI other than a vague reference to "tools", so of course people are going to assume they mean LLMs. They need to respond to all of the points you raised and provide some serious clarity, because this doesn't make them look good!
